About us

A "BRIEF" INTRODUCTION ABOUT US:   Women around the world play an essential role in the social, historical and cultural composition of their country. In Peru, women have contributed, since the Columbine ages, to various areas of our culture and society; however, throughout the history of Peru there have been ups and downs in terms of its recognition. For many years, various groups around the world have tried, and succeeded, in recognizing their rights and contributions. In this sense, Peru has not been exempt from these movements, nor from the various changes that both time and constant struggle have caused. Even so, there is still a long way to go when it comes to gender gaps. What we know as our beautiful country, Peru, is a mixture of efforts of men and women. There is no doubt that what we know as Peruvian culture has been an achievement of both, if this is so, why does it not seem so? Why does it always seem to be attribute to a single gender? In this blog, a group of 5

Women in Peru- Original Post

Despite all the obstacles that Peruvian women have faced, today they have managed to obtain respect and recognition, working in various areas. At present, women in Peru have acquired a greater presence in the labor, political and business spheres. If we look a little back on the timeline, in the 20th century, we can realize the progress of women in relation to their presence in the workplace. According to the newspaper, La Gestión (2015) “In the 70's, three out of every 10 women worked, in the 90's the figure rose to 5 out of 10. Currently 78% of Peruvian women of working age do so.” If we associate work with growth and development, there is a clear contribution of women in the progress of our country in recent decades. An important factor, pursued by women for a long time, was access to education. Thanks to the pioneers of feminist movements at the beginning and middle of the 20th century, we can say that today Peruvian women have access to education, this being the tool that

8 Peruvian Women Who Made History

8 Peruvian Women Who Made History To celebrate and conclude March being Women’s History Month, we want to acknowledge some of the many incredible women throughout Peru’s history! Although some people might disagree, Peru is often described as a patriarchal society and men receive preferred treatment in almost all aspects of society. Traditionally in Peru, men and women have occupied very different labor roles but the lines are slowly being blurred as more women gain access to training and formal education. Despite all the obstacles Peruvian women have faced, they have continued to fight and protest for equal rights and the nation would not be the same had it not been for the impact of these women. WOMEN IN THE CONTEMPORARY PERU: THEIR ROLE IN THIS SOCIETY (Reflexion)

We are in the 21st century, various important events have occurred throughout our history, and those involving women are no exception. For many years, various demonstrations were held around women's rights, and for good, they have borne fruit. The vision of them compared to previous centuries has changed significantly and we are aware of it. However, should we settle for it?  In this blog, we review some episodes of our history and we have focused on women as protagonists with the changes in vision that helped to put the struggle to understand their roles in society into context. Now, it is necessary to look at the present (and perhaps the future) about what we lack. In principle, labor gaps and violence have been obstacles to the (still) appreciation of women today, so despite all the progress made, there is still more to be done. We cannot be conformists and believe that everything is solved.  The objectives are being gradually fulfilled, but too slowly. The gates of progress are

THE SUFFRAGETTES AND THEIR STRUGGLE FOR THE VOTE OF WOMEN IN THE 20th CENTURY

THE SUFFRAGETTES AND THEIR STRUGGLE FOR THE VOTE OF WOMEN IN THE 20th CENTURY In the 20th century, the agenda will expand and will have suffrage as its central axis, since women aspired to obtain full citizenship to stop being considered minors and be able to exercise their civil, political, and social rights. Thus, strategies were organized and developed to get out of political marginalization in a Latin American and global context in which women's struggle for the vote was taking place. María Jesús Alvarado (Ica, 1878) was the first to put the debate on women's suffrage in the country on the agenda in her conference "El feminismo", given at the Geographical Society in 1911. For her part, Zoila Aurora Cáceres (Lima, 1872) founded the Peruvian Feminism Association, which proposed a project to reform the Constitution in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, and tried to make the population aware of women's political rights through the press. In 1952, the Association of Tr
